Public Dedication of New Law School Downtown on Friday

On Friday, April 23rd, the University of Memphis faculty, dressed in the academic regalia of their various alma maters from around the nation and the world, will process, beginning about 1:45 p.m., from Jefferson along Main and Madison streets and across Front Street to the law school at 1 North Front Street. There they will be a part of the public dedication of the new law school at 2 p.m., followed immediately by the annual Faculty Convocation, which will take place in the Wade Auditorium on the first floor of the school. Volunteers Needed for Naturalization Ceremony on April 26th

Volunteers are needed to assist with the final event of Law Week 2010—the Naturalization Ceremony. The event will be held on Monday, April 26th at 10 am at the Cannon Center. During the event, over 300 new citizens will be sworn in. Volunteers are need to hand out programs and American flags to the new citizens prior to the ceremony from about 8:30 am until 10 am. The 2010 conference – April 28 to May 2 – at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort features plenary sessions on social networking, judicial mediation, and bankruptcy issues for state court practitioners as well as concurrent sessions on everything from family law to the global financial system’s meltdown. Among those speaking at the conference are Chief Justice Janice Holder, Tennessee Supreme Court (who also will lead an all-level karate class!); U.S. Magistrate Judge Diane Vescovo and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge George Emerson; Judge Patricia Cottrell, Court of Appeals, and Judge Thomas Woodall, Court of Criminal Appeals; Circuit Court Judges Robert L. Childers, James Russell, Kay Robilio, Donna Fields, Lorrie Ridder, and Jerry Stokes; General Sessions Judges Phyllis Gardner and Lee Wilson; and Juvenile Court Referee Sheldon McCall.
