"Buy the Hour" CLE Seminar, Today!
The MBA will host its annual "Last Minute Buy the Hour" series of six seminars today at Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Memphis (Second St and Adams Ave). The event offers 6 hours of CLE credit through a series of 1-hour seminars starting at 8:30 am and ending at 4:35 pm. The cost is $50 per hour for MBA Members; $60 per hour for Non-MBA Members; and $30 for non-attorneys or if no CLE credit is needed. Walk-ins are welcome! The schedule is as follows:

MBA Provides Gifts to Teens at Youth Villages
On Thursday, MBA Treasurer Linda Warren Seely delivered dozens of gifts to Youth Villages on behalf of the 2010 MBA Board of Directors. Each gift fulfilled an item on the wish list of one of 12 boys supported by the MBA. Board Members Ricky E. Wilkins, Linda Warren Seely, Frank Cantrell, Laurel Williams, Gary Smith, John Cannon, Mike Fletcher, Elizabeth Collins, Asia Diggs, Porter Feild, Marc Reisman and Anne Fritz shopped for and wrapped each item. Sherry Brooks contributed the wrapping paper and bows. Photos from the Youth Villages Christmas Party are featured at left.

MBA Helps Food Bank, Seeks Donations
In November, the MBA responded to the Mid-South Food Bank’s call for turkeys to serve needy families this holiday season, donating $2,500 to help meet the need. To offset the cost, the MBA is seeking donations from its members: a donation of $15 would cover the cost of turkeys for 3 families; $25 would cover the cost of 5 turkeys. If you would like to donate, please make your check payable to the Memphis Bar Foundation and send it to Anne Fritz at 80 Monroe Avenue, Suite 220, Memphis, TN 38103 . The Memphis Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, so contributions to it are tax deductible as charitable contributions.
YLD Annual Meeting Posters Still Available
Posters from the 2010 Young Lawyers Division Annual Meeting & Elections held at Alfred's on Beale on November 18th are still available for $20. Comments on Magistrate Judges due Dec. 31
The current term of office of United States Magistrate Judge Tu M. Pham is due to expire in April 2011 and the current term of office of Magistrate Judge Diane K. Vescovo is due to expire on June 2011. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of a magistrate judge to a new eight year term.
Rotary's Dunavant Award Nominees due Jan. 15
The Rotary Club of Memphis East is seeking nominees for its 8th annual Bobby Dunavant Public Service Award, an event that honors distinguished work by public officials. Honorees are selected in two categories, one for elected public officials and the other for non-elected public officials. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 15. Nominations can be made through forms on the Rotary website at www.rotaryclubofmemphiseast.org. 2011 Bench Bar Conference Returning to Tops’l!
You, the people, have spoken—so the 2011 Bench Bar Conference is returning to Tops’l Beach Resort in Sandestin, FL from May 4-8! The Conference will focus on how the economy is affecting clients’ expectations of lawyers and how lawyers can adapt to meet those changing expectations. There will be programming for everyone, regardless of your practice area: civil litigation, family law, transactional law, criminal law, ADR, bankruptcy, intellectual property or labor/employment. Along with the usual (white sand beach, sparkling blue water, social and sports events, hospitality suite, etc.), there are several new “tweaks” this year, including a pre-conference “event” to build interest in the conference; room sharing and ride sharing lists to reduce the cost of attending; and “dine arounds” at the conference so you can meet and get to know your colleagues. Mark the dates now and make plans to attend the 2011 Bench Bar Conference!
