Summer Law Intern Program Applications Now Available

Applications for the 2011 Summer Law Intern Program are now available on either the MBA’s website, or by calling the MBA office (527.3573). Completed applications, which include an essay and a letter of reference, are due by 5 p.m. on April 4, 2011. The program is open to minority high school students in good standing who will begin their junior or senior year of high school in August 2011 and who are residents of Shelby County. Internships are for a period of four weeks, June 13-July 8; interns must work a minimum of 60 hours during that period and, if they successfully complete the internship, they will receive a stipend.
The Summer Law Intern Program seeks to develop and nurture an interest in the legal profession among young people from underrepresented groups, with the long-term goal of increasing diversity in the legal profession. Interns will get personal experience in the daily legal workplace of private law firms, corporate legal departments or government agencies. Interns also will participate in group activities on Friday afternoons during the program; these typically include a meeting with local judges; a Q&A with local attorneys; and a college/financial aid session for both the interns and their parents/guardian.
The MBA also is seeking workplaces to participate in this year’s program. If you or your firm is interested, please contact MBA Executive Director Anne Fritz at 527.3573 or afritz@memphisbar.org.
