Please join us in congratulating St. George's Red and St. Mary's for advancing to tonight's Championship Round of the 2012 District 1 High School Mock Trial Competition hosted by the Memphis Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. All are invited to tonight's Championship Round, which will be held in the Supreme Court courtroom at the Shelby County Courthouse, and will be judged by the Honorable Phyllis B. Gardner, former MBA President John R. Cannon, Jr., and current YLD President Abby J. Webb. We are also pleased to announce that both teams will be representing District 1 in the State Competition to be held in Nashville on March 16th and 17th. Finally, the YLD would like to thank all local attorneys who volunteered their time to judge earlier rounds because without your support, this competition would not be possible for high school students in Shelby County.

Learn by Doing at the Trial Academy

The MBA’s Litigation Section is sponsoring The Trial Academy from Oct. 19-21 (during Judicial Conference) at the Shelby County Courthouse. The Academy is a “learn by doing” seminar designed to hone the trial skills of young attorneys. Participants will receive a civil trial problem in advance, for which they will have to prepare, just as for an actual trial. At the Academy, the participants will conduct trial exercises while being videotaped and will receive a constructive critique of their performance from some of the finest trial lawyers in Memphis and the surrounding area. This is an invaluable and cost effective way to get courtroom training when the opportunities for trial experience are dwindling.
The registration fee is $750, a bargain when compared to similar programs. More information, including a schedule, will be available in the next month. Check for the latest information and mark your calendar now to attend!
